In 2002 when she was 25 she moved away from California and moved to Los Angeles looking for her breakthrough. Brink sang and worked at caf s and bars as she looked for a band. In the years following, Chris Howorth, a part of the band she's in, attended an interview with her. Howorth was hesitant to let her audition since she was a female. However, he altered his mind and apologized to her after listening to her singing. They created the Dying Stars group with Jeff Fabb, a drummer. Then guitarist Blake Bunzel joined the band together with Bassist Josh Newell. The name of the group has been changed to In This Moment after two performances.
